RONALD!
I have not had the best 4 months so as an early birthday present (way back in October) Alex very kindly bought me something he thought would try to cheer my up and get me out of my dark place. He bought me a hamster! I have had three before when I was little, not at the same time thought ha! He knew how much I wanted one as I was always going on about them! I think they are sooo cute and cuddly, I love them!
The little chap is a ginger Syrian hamster and I have called him Ronald. Yes he is named after Ronald Weasley from the Harry Potter series :)

We went to get him mid September and at first Alex was a little nervous and not overly bothered about him but if you look at him now you would have never thought that, he loves him. About 3 days after collecting him we noticed that his tail was really wet, as if he had sat in water. I could remember the girl at the pet shop telling us about a fatal condition that hamster can get which is called Wet Tail. I won't bore or gross you all out with the details but it is essentially caused by stress either where he was previously kept of even a car journey back to your house from the pet shop, but either way, if a hamster gets it then it doesn't look too great. I was devastated that we had noticed this and Alex drove us to the vets where we got poor little Ronald seen to. The vet confirmed our worries and said that it is indeed wet tail and gave us some antibiotics that we should replace the water with. I was so worried that I was the reason he had this condition as he bit me when we first got him and I think it startled the both of us. I have never been bitten by any of my 3 hamsters so this was a little shocking for me too but it was very soon after getting him and I don't think he did it to hurt me, I just think he hadn't settled into his new home yet and in his eyes I was an invader. The vet was lovely but she did say that he will either have 24 hours or the longest a week. I tried really hard not to get upset because not only had I become attached to the little fella but he was bought to not cover up my family problems but to almost ease the pain a little. Anyway we gave him the antibiotics in which he was very stubborn with and didn't drink it all but a week passed, then two weeks, then a month and here we are today. He is still with us! I really think it is a miracle that he is still here and I am sure it means something, he was meant to be my hamster. (i know you will all think I'm mad ha)
As I was away for Christmas, he couldn't come home with me and Alex's mum hates rodent type pets but my lovely friend Sally offered to look after him. She doesn't live too far from uni so it was quite a convenience and meant he wouldn't need a stressful car journey to bring him home and back again. I cant wait to go back and collect him because I have missed him so much.
On the day of my birthday, Alex got me some lovely gifts on top of already buying me Ronald but just in case I forgot that he was my present as well, he got me this super cute teddy version of a hamster!
Do you have any pets? What do you think of hamster?
xx
